To Become The Best

If anyone asked me what I wanted to become when I grew up, I would answer that I was going to become the best goalkeeper in the world. I’ve let that vision lead me in my journey throught life, a life filled to the brim with football. A football life.

I can honestly say that I am not sure how much further I will be able to go on my journey. Some people think of me as the best in the world, others wholeheartedly disagree. Football is a game of opinions. We can’t measure in an accurate way so people choose freely what they prefer. Right now my task is to stay on a high level for as long a possible, to prepare according to the standards I’ve come to expect from myself and my surroundings. Opinions change, teams change.

The thing I focus on, besides juggeling football in combination with my family-life, is to be better today than I was yesterday. There are still room for improvement, lots of it. One of the perks of not having a professional setting around me until I was over my thirties is that I still have untapped potential.

I was four years old when my older sister went to buy a pair of football boots. I also wanted a pair. They had to make a special order to fit my small feet. Since then the boots have been many, but there are something special about those first ones. A pair of Patrique. Maybe that is the reason as to why I am so fond of my uncle Patrique, an explorer, just like me.

There have been ups and downs throughout my long journey. I’ve had injuries. I’ve had doubts. I’ve wanted to give up. I’ve realised it is not a straight road. There are bumps and sometimes the bumps was needed to get me to the next level.

I’ve gained a lot of different experiences during these years. I’ve travelled. I’ve met with a lot of different people, different backgrounds and cultures. Different goals, different teams, different methods, different places, different friends, coaches and staff members. Team mates. The stories are many, and there are still a few to be experienced before they can be told.

In March 2018 it was announced I was voted into the World 11 2017 by my peers. The Worlds Best Goalkeeper. I reached my lifelong dream. WOW. I was able to do it.

My Football story

I am  a Swedish professional football goalkeeper. I was born on the 29th of April 1983.

I previously played club football in Sweden for Damallsvenskan clubs including Malmö FF (loan IF Trion), Linköpings FC, Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC and Kristianstads DFF. I left Sweden 2015 for Chelsea FCW in the FAWSL in England, in 2019 I joined Vfl Wolfsburg in the German Frauen-Bundesliga and between July 2020 - June 2022 I was representing Atlético de Madrid in Liga Iberdrola in Spain. Right now I am back in my home country, Sweden, where I represented Djurgårdens IF between July 2022 - July 2023. Right now I am in the process of deciding if I have retired or not.

Since making my international debut in 2002, I have played 189 caps for the Swedish Women’s national football team.

On 3rd August 2014 I played my 100th cap against England. On 17th September 2015 I played my 113th cap and I thereby broke Elisabeth Leidinge's record to become the most capped Swedish female goalkeeper.

On 24th October 2017 I broke the record in number of caps played by any goalkeeper in Sweden, male or female, when I played my 144th cap in a game against Hungary.

I have kept goal for Sweden at the UEFA Women’s Championship, the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games. Twelve times as a starting goalkeeper and three times as a back up keeper. That makes me one of the most experienced players of all time in Sweden and the world in terms of experience from international tournaments. I have also had experience from participating in the UEFA Women's Cup/UEFA Women's Champions League.

I have one World Cup silver, two World Cup bronzes, three bronze medals from the EURO and two Olympic silvers. I have won the Swedish Cup twice, the English FA WSL and the FA Cup twice, the double in Germany once and the Super Copa in Spain.

I was picked as the best female goalkeeper in Sweden ten times and as the best female football player two times. In march 2018 I was voted for as the goalkeeper in the World 11, presented by FIFpro.

In May 2019 I was honoured with my own image in an initiative taken by Coca-Cola Sweden and the Swedish FA, called FootballForevHer.
